Complete your Pre-Arrival Checklist.

Apply for visa icon

After you receive the electronic copy of your I-20, complete the following steps before booking your visa appointment:

  1. Schedule a free visa information and preparation session with your personal Enrollment Advisor.
  2. Check that the details on your I-20 are correct (including your date of birth) and make sure your name is the same as it appears on your passport.
  3. Prepare the documents you will need to take to the embassy when attending your visa interview.

After you complete the above steps, you should apply for your visa as soon as possible. It requires an interview with the U.S. Embassy and your scheduled appointment may be several weeks out.

  1. Complete your Visa Application.
  2. Pay your I-901 (SEVIS) fee.
  3. Visit usembassy.gov to learn more about scheduling your visa appointment, what to expect when you arrive, and the documentation you need to take with you.
  4. Notify your personal Enrollment Advisor of the date and Embassy of your visa appointment.

When purchasing your ticket, plan to arrive on or before your scheduled move-in day.

We are so excited for you to join us on campus! To ensure a smooth transition to your new home, plan to arrive on or before your official move-in day. Airport pickup is available Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC).

Once you book your flights, you must fill out the student arrival form. If your family is joining you, you must also complete the family arrival form.

Making your payment in full two weeks before you arrive will help avoid delays with enrollment.

Choose between two ways to submit payment for tuition and fees:

  • Flywire by Peer Transfer: Please visit the University of Utah’s flywire portal to complete the transfer process. Please note that you cannot use a U.S. credit card or U.S. bank account.

All incoming undergraduate Utah Global students are required to submit official copies of the documents submitted with the initial application. There are two important parts of this process:

In order to be considered official, transcripts must include:
  1. Final grades
  2. Come directly from your school
  3. Be officially translated into English if they were not originally written in English
High School Diploma (Graduation Certificate)
If you graduated from high school, you will need to submit your high school diploma.
  • have your high school submit an official copy of your diploma (graduate certificate).
Contact your school to send your transcript(s) and diploma to the University of Utah’s Office of Admissions.
  • Digital transcripts and diplomas should be emailed directly from your school to: admisstranscripts@utah.edu
  • *Only our digital mailing services should be used to send electronic transcripts (Parchment, National Student Clearinghouse, etc. – full list can be found on our website here: https://admissions.utah.edu/international-freshmen-admissions/
  • Hard copy transcripts and diplomas should be mailed directly from the school in a sealed envelope to:

If you submitted your application with an incomplete transcript while you finished 12th grade or if you had in-progress classes at a post-secondary institution, you need to submit final, updated transcripts with grades posted with official English translation if they were not originally written in English.
If you have any university-level education/transfer work, you will also need to submit an official transcript from this university with official English translation if it was not originally written in English.
All incoming undergraduate Utah Global students are required to take a math placement test (ALEKS) before leaving their home country. Students in the Extended Accelerator Program (EAP), Advanced Accelerator Program (AAP), and International Direct (ID) program must take ALEKS before arriving at the University of Utah; however, Pre-Sessional English students are not required to take a math placement test.*

You have four chances to take this exam, and some of these can be used as practice.

*Additionally, if you have taken the SAT or ACT exam(s), you may be exempt from taking ALEKS. Your score(s) must be less than 2 years old and sent directly from the links below. Test scores cannot be accepted via a high school transcript.
If you have taken the SAT or ACT in the last 2 years, please follow these steps to log into:
  • Your SAT account: SAT Login
  • For the SAT, use the number 4853 for the University of Utah
  • Your ACT account: ACT Login
  • For the ACT, use the number 4274 for the University of Utah
Once your scores have been sent, email us a screenshot or an email confirmation of your request at utgacademics@utah.edu
  • We will contact you to confirm whether or not you will need to take ALEKS
Have you taken university-level courses at another institution? Please send us the course syllabi for all classes you hope to transfer for academic advisors to review. You may receive credit towards General Education or Major Coursework requirements. Syllabi need to be officially translated into English if they were not originally written in English.
Please email utgacademics@utah.edu with the syllabi of your university-level courses and the following:
  • Your first and last name (you given name and surname)
  • U of U ID number
  • Intended Major and/or Minor
You may include concurrent coursework (courses took at a university while you were still attending high school/secondary school) or courses you took at another university before transferring to the U of U.
